About Us

Barbara Kalmen, RN, IBCLC

I loved my baby dolls as a small child, and could think of nothing better than to be able to take care of mothers and babies.  That was my goal and I am privileged to be living my dream.  I have spent 45 years working as a RN in many different hospitals caring for many, many mothers and infants.  The birth of my children and grandchildren has brought me much joy and has served to enlighten me through the many trials and experiences that only children can impart to their mothers.  And I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2006.

Texas became my forever home with my Mom in 2009 after I retired from serving in the United States Air Force and I taught The Bradley Method™ for 40 plus years.  I currently see new mothers privately as I help them to work out the kinks with breastfeeding. It is my greatest joy to be available to give guidance to mothers and help them achieve their breastfeeding goals.  How can I help you?

Emily Garrison

Hi!  I am Emily.  I am a stay at home momma to a wonderful son, Timothy who was born in the fall of 2015.  I live in the great state of Texas in one of the many suburbs of Houston.  Before I was a stay at home momma, I was a nanny for 4 ½ years and before that I was a teacher for 1 ½ years.  Even though I have a lot of experience with kids nothing could have prepared me for this wonderful adventure of raising a family.

I am part of several online mommy communities where I receive and give peer advice on nursing and being a great mommy.  I am a member of my local Le Leche League.  I took Bradley classes when I was pregnant and had an all natural birth at a birthing center.  This was truly the best experience of my life.  I have struggled with insufficient glandular tissue with means my body doesn’t produce enough milk for my baby to thrive.  Because of this and issues Timothy had with being tongue and lip tied I spent 3 months primarily pumping.  But this did not stop my desire to breastfeed my baby.  I am happy to say that I have continued to bring Timothy to the breast and now I feed him at the breast about 4 times a day and pump about half the milk I bottle feed him.

I fill most of my time by taking care of my family.  But I have other passions as well.  I love to bake cakes and pies.  Blueberry pie is the one I make most often, my husband’s favorite.  I also coupon; who doesn’t love saving money.  I love doing crafts of all sorts.  And I am a lifelong learner.  Come join me on this adventure of learning about babies.
